an affirmative answer

Unbelievable. I mean, it should be believable because of Who God is, but I'm still amazed: God gave me a job in Spain!

After thinking I would be buying a plane ticket home about a month ago, I was already floored that I received invitations to multiple interviews within a week's time. Then, when all of those interviews went extremely well, I just barely dared to hope that one of them would work out.

Skybridge Community News

Greetings, Skybridgers (and potential Skybridgers).

I sent a note to our registered members recently and wanted to follow up via a blog post as well as invite dialogue from those of you who are not yet members of Skybridge Community. First, thanks to those of you who completed our short survey last month. The information that you provided was very helpful. Based on feedback we’ve heard, here are a few things we’re working on for Skybridge:

a turn of events

As those of you reading this blog series know, my past several weeks of job searching in Europe had yielded few promising leads. I was discouraged and confused because I very strongly felt God's leadership here despite the huge risk of coming to Europe without a job and hoping to find one.

an exception to the rule

I've spent the past few months charting a little of my story in Spain online, but I feel like I need to make a disclaimer of sorts: what I am doing is not normal.

Moving overseas is not normal in and of itself. But moving without a job and with faith that I'll find one is probably going to be the exception, not the rule, for most of you Skybridgers.

a reality check

I know I've spent the past couple of entries being semi-prescriptive about becoming a missional expat in Europe, but I felt compelled to add a little reality to the mix: THIS IS STINKING HARD, and there's no magic formula!

the job search: where to start

If Spain is indicative of Europe, then it’s usually all about relationships when it comes to finding a job. In fact, that’s becoming more and more the case in the United States, but it’s especially evident in Spain, where nepotism and favoritism because of relationships even has a name: being enchufado (“plugged in”).

Once again, I am probably not the best "guinea pig" because I felt enchufada coming into this job search due to the previous three years in Spain; however, I can say that none of my business contacts have come through with a job yet.

connecting your home church and europe

As I've spent time overseas as a full-time Christian worker, and now without the support of a traditional sending agency, I've come to realize the importance of having a fellowship in my home country who is responsible for sending me out and being a spiritual family even from a distance. So before I even started looking for a job in Europe, I knew I needed to have a spiritual structure in the United States set up to participate equally in the work God had called me to do overseas.
